This assignment was the first time I tried to visualize a set in 3D. I had been using Autodesk Alias for about 2 years at this point to model concept drawings I made. These were mostly cars or panels from other automotive sketches.
The assignment was to recreate the 'Mirrors' set from the music video of Justin Timberlake's song - Mirrors. I figured out the approximate positions of the mirrors and modelled them in Alias.
This is where I realised Keyshot was not it for this work. Sat down to binge a ton of youtube videos and then decided I would continue on Maya. I got a friend to import my alias file as an obj into Maya on his machine and then spent about two days trying to get it to work. This is also when I first started to understand what rigs are and how to use them as coming from Alias, I had no experience with animation.
Then finally, I learnt how textures actually work, downloaded a tileable wood texture and made the floor which was the first texture I ever made myself! With all this work put in, I was very happy with the result. I had a few problems with how the mirrors interacted with the floor didn't look 'proper'. That's when I started posting on forums and started understand 3D vis and lighting.
