IITG Racing | Assembly video

(
2020
)

Background

I was asked to do a 'Virtual Assembly' video for the IITG Racing club back in 2019 and the lockdown gave me the perfect opportunity to work on a big project like this. The video is the final outcome of the project. This was my first video render using blender. The project also got me into the actual working of components in vehicles with me having to accurately model the suspension, steering arm, engine fitments etc. I switched over to Blender after this project.

The process

I was provided with a 3d model of the pipe chassis and bare engine block along with photos for the body panels and side pods. I modelled everything in Autodesk Alias, then learnt blender and substance painter to texture and animate the model.

Conclusion

A lot of hard work went into this project over the course of two months. I learnt animation and texturing in Blender, which was a valuable addition to my skill set. A key lesson for me was understanding the importance of file management in large projects.
